Khatey Aaloo



Ingredients:
  • Potatoes 1 large (baking potato)or 2-3 small
  • Mustard Seed (Rai) 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek Seed (Methi Dana) 1 tsp
  • Onion Seed (Calonji) 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seed (Zeera) 1 tsp
  • Whole Red Mirch 2-3
  • Salt to taste
  • Red Pepper to taste
  • Turmeric (Haldi) to taste
  • Oil 1 tbs
  • Water



Method:

  1. Chop the potatoes into small cubes and set aside. 
  2. In a pot, heat oil. Add Rai, Kalonji and Methi Dana and fry for a minute. 
  3. Then add Zeera and whole red mirch and fry for another minute. 
  4. Add the potato cubes, salt, red pepper and haldi and stir to coat. 
  5. Pour in a little water so that the potatoes do not stick to the bottom of the pot. 
  6. Cook on medium heat until potatoes are soft. 
  7. You may have to periodically add more water. 
  8. When cooked the potatoes should be dry and coated with the various seeds.
